Protocol for the reception of ashes

In the case of fly ash from municipal waste incineration, the transport vehicles unload directly at the high-density bagging plant, after a documentary check at the weighbridge. All unloading at the high-density bagging plant is carried out following the specific procedures in place for this operation, in order to detect any possible incidents. There is a protocol for unloading and operation of the bagging plant, which is audited periodically by the corresponding administration in order to optimize its operation.

In this plant, the ashes are mixed by means of a process designed by ATLAS, using a state-of-the-art mixer system, where the ashes are injected, together with leachate and rainwater from the deposit itself, to increase the plasticity of the mixture, compacting and packaging the waste in flexible big-bag type containers. The high-density bagging plant uses a single-use, watertight big-bag designed specifically for this operation, plasticized on the inside, to bag the waste. This plant allows the treatment of powdery waste, such as fly ash, through a sealed process, so that there are no emissions to the outside, because once the ash is compacted and placed in big bags, it is a solid, totally stable waste, suitable for management in the corresponding special waste deposit.

This treatment process increases the density of the waste, inertizes and reduces the contaminated load of metals present in the fly ash, reduces its surface area in contact with water and improves the physical conditions for its disposal in the receiving vessel.

This procedure improves the management of this waste in the controlled deposit, significantly reducing its pollutant load, since the big-bag container prevents contact with water and therefore the generation of waste and its dissolution.

The bagging plant, as well as the special waste deposit, is subject to an atmospheric emissions control regime, to ensure the optimal operation of the plant, to avoid any emission of waste outside.
